Air purification in educational centers (schools, colleges, universities and nurseries)

Schools, educational centers, kindergartens and schools often have problems with indoor air quality due to the concentration of people in confined spaces.

Poor indoor air quality in educational center classrooms increases the spread of viruses , causing various contagious diseases and annoyances such as congestion and coughing in children and adults, causing casualties too often.

Likewise, air pollution and the presence of allergens is a problem for children and people who suffer from asthma, groups that are more sensitive to the effects of pollutants in a faster and more severe way, and can lead to a decrease in lung function. But this is also a problem for the rest of the individuals, since they can accentuate the respiratory problems and symptoms.

Recently, the Spanish Health Department and the WHO have confirmed that one of the main causes of contagion of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that produces the Covid 19 disease is the aerosols present in the air , caused by the exhalation of particles when speaking or coughing , which can remain suspended in the air for 2 or 3 hours infecting the rest of the occupants of the classroom.

The main recommendations are the use of greater ventilation, air purifiers with HEPA filters and germicidal technologies to reduce the concentration of the virus.

At Airpurtec® we have advanced purifiers with EN1822 certified HEPA H13 high-efficiency filters with a filtering efficiency of 99.988%, with different models that adapt to the size of each classroom.

To select the proper HEPA purifier to use, you need to know the CADR value (m³ / h). For this, we put at your disposal our HEPA Filters calculator .

Current ventilation level

This is an approximation of the average rate of air change in many schools, based on research studies.

The value recommended by Harvard University is 5

Minimum CADR required

288.41 ft 3 / min
Cubic feet per minute CADR in cfm, for filters that bring only that unit.
490 m 3 / h
Clean Air Delivery Rate. Filters (individual or multiple, must add this together).

PXCELL® technology

Another available and highly effective technology is the PXCELL® Advanced Heterogeneous Photocatalysis, which, using ambient H2O and thanks to a catalyst with a germicidal lamp, generates safe oxidants that eliminate viruses and bacteria. In this case, the Hepa filter recirculation parameter should not be used because this technology is active and disinfects in the air, requiring fewer renovations to perform its function.

PXCELL® benefits

  • Neutralizes viruses, bacteria (eg E-Coli, Salmonella), and fungal spores (eg Penicillium) by 99.99%.
  • Deodorization, eliminates odors due to high number of people.
  • Active, not passive technology that disinfects the air and the surfaces of the premises, including areas of difficult access.
  • You can keep spaces disinfected without spraying harsh chemicals.
  • Elimination of aerosol bio-pollutants and volatile organic compounds (VOC's).
  • Compared to other technologies, it does not need to use filters, it does not recirculate and it is an active, not passive technology that does not generate ozone.
  • Its maintenance is minimal and easy to install.
  • It is not harmful to people, so spaces are not required to be unoccupied or evacuated, rooms can remain occupied 24 hours safely.
  • Consumption practically negligible (39-75 W, depending on the equipment model).
  • Complementary system to the possibility of installing HEPA filters that increases safety.
